Hi guys,
I have been trying for a while to create a semi-transparent mirror. I have already seen a contribution here in the forum https://www.thearender.com/forum/viewto ... 92&t=18849. Unfortunately, it seems not to work for me.
What have I done?
In Blender I made a cube and a sphere in it. The material of the cube is a mirror and is one-sided. You would actually have to see the bullet inside. Unfortunately, I only see the cube. No matter how the normals are aligned.
Actually, it should be a semi-transparent mirror, but the mirror can only be seen from the inside of the cube. What goes wrong?

Thanks for the hint. I've tried rombout's hint, but you can not look into the cube. The material is one-sided. But it is displayed from both sides. Nicolas, does yours work?

My first result:

In the zip file I have added a minimal example.
Thanks olflab

Hi,

Sorry, it seems I have redirected you to the thread you were already mentioning...
I wonder what rendering engine you use? From what I can remember, it doesn't work with Presto.
I can see the example file from Frankych was deleted. I will attach it to this post so you can take a look at it.

I can also send you a Sketchup file if it helps.

Hi guys,
here's the original file just in case.
It does work with TR1 but not Presto as far as I remember.

Cheers
Francois

I just tested your scene using AMC and it works!
AMC.jpg
Now I do remember that for my project I had to merge 2 renders in Photoshop:
- one with my main scene rendered with Presto ;
- the other with the mirror rendered with TR2 or TR1.

Ah, it works now. The secret is to choose the right rendering engine.
BSD and AMC work fine.

Here my result:
