I think I may have a better and faster solution, using gradients and smoke maps.

If you can replace Sketchup's camera tools camera for a component with those maps as face me components inside the camera component, you might have a fine trick there!

Thanks to Sandros, I may have another solution. http://www.thearender.com/forum/viewtop ... 8&start=70

Using Global medium.

I used a basic dirt texture, mapped it to a cube, positioned the cube in front of camera, outside looking in, as inside the cube does not work.

IMO using gradients and smoke maps gave a much more realistic variable density result.

Not with current version...
But I'm sure it'll be possible sometime in the future... ;)

Well in studio you can put the camera inside the cube as well. If you assign the material which has the medium also as a container to the camera.

Here's the advanced godray scene, i did some tests a while back. When i assigned the material also to the camera you can place the camera inside the box

PS altering the material and some sort of cloud, thea sort of, can do the same thing. I did some quick testing, takes a lot of time and render power.

Here'a quick render and the scene. I noticed even Presto can handle it, but the sun disappears though.

EDIT
I animated the sun thats why it disappears, delete the keyframes and it will show again

Here's a test using a bunch of them, i also lowered the displacement a bit to render faster. MCp shows some dark noise areas, is set the samples to 75 so this could explain that.

Here's the altered scene as well.

EDIT
added a ship and voila, nice space scene. The great model comes from projectlondonmovie.com
