I just bought a Surface Book 2 for better public demonstration effect. Basically, I have a brand new system with all updates and latest drivers. T4R is also the latest version. However, I find T4R behaved really weirdly on this new computer. The biggest issue is that viewport rendering is completely down. Nothing happened either pressing the Viewport Render button on toolbar to change the viewport display mode to Thea Render. There are other misc. pains such as Rhino cannot remember the locations of environments, models, and materials for import. Also, Rhino cannot remember recent files as long as I used T4R. I never saw such issues on other computers I own.

I saw one of my students have the issue but I did not pay much attention. I assume these problems are more about Rhino 5 than about T4R. It seems that Rhino 5 is bound to phase out with its poor compatibility with new devices. Yet, I am still wondering if there is a final Thea for Rhino 5 plugin on the way.

Isnt that a permission issue that i doesnt remember last files?

Does it have enough memory to use IR render?

I suppose there should not be the reason. IR render goes well in Darkroom. It is just the Viewport Rendering mode not working

Finally find a solution for Viewport Rendering. My computer has two GPUs (a discrete GTX1050 and an integrated Intel GPU). I went to NVidia 3D settings and set Rhino 5 to use Integrated graphics and I got viewport rendering back. Other setting options, such as using NVidia GPU only or automatic selection wont work. Thea seems to still use both CPU and the discrete GPU to render as I can see two moving tiles in Bucket render mode. Other mysterious issues were also gone after I used T4R and saved files. The only remaining problem is the lingering process of Rhino 5 after I exit the program. I reported that issue a long time ago. It is interesting that it only occurred on laptops.

So when using regular render mode, you dont see this issue and the 2 GPU's are used?

I am actually not sure now. Windows Task Manager shows the GTX1050 is not working at all during the rendering procedure. I am posting a comparison between the weird behavior of GTX1050 on my Surface Book 2 and that of my desktop with a GTX1080.

Same thing happened when I tried exporting the scene to render in Thea Studio. I also posted another inquiry about this puzzling phenomenon in the board of Thea Studio:

I now hardly anything about GPU and hope Anthony will bump into this thread. He's a real hardware guru. Im not sure but it looks like on both machine the GPU isnt doing really much. On machine A its actually zero % and machine b is just 30% which is still kind of low i guess.

Have you done a search for that card here on the forum, perhaps there is a thread about it. When you open studio, do you see that popup if the Presto is supported by GPU?

I see this on my old MacBook Pro

That is not the case for me. I now found actually the GTX1050 has been working just fine. Render time would be a lot longer without using the GPU.
