In your steps above, if, in between steps 1 and 2, you delete the original folder and files that you copied, and then go on to step 2, does the copied scene STILL open OK?
I ask because I have noticed that some Thea files hard code a path in them. If the file is opened, and the hard path exists, Thea will use that path. If the path is missing, only then will Thea use files in the local vicinity of the actual file that was opened. Answering my first paragraph may help narrow down where the problem lies. If the answer is yes, then we are back to square one. If no, then that is interesting as it might mean the original files are being accessed, and that might explain why moving the copied files to a different system fails.
Just a wild guess.

The copied Rhino scene can sure work fine independently. We tried copies scenes between computers and all worked fine as long as we do rendering with Thea for Rhino. I am pretty sure the problem has to do with the transition from Rhino to Thea Studio.DavePSB wrote:In your steps above, if, in between steps 1 and 2, you delete the original folder and files that you copied, and then go on to step 2, does the copied scene STILL open OK?

I see sort if the same issues sometimes with thea4blender when i export a scene to Thea Studio. But when i save/close and reopen the scene the links are fine. Could you perhaps try that?
