Not an actual licensed user :) . I was wondering how is the development roadmap compared to the recently announced Octane Render 3. The announced features look cool but I assume based on last year version that they will increase the price for the standalone and plugin yet again. Was considering Thea but there are some things that it doesn’t have yet and it will be nice to have.

Needed stuff:

- Live texture baking
- Split render passes, advanced per object reflection controls
- Volumetric rendering: particles, smoke, clouds, fire
- Deep pixel rendering

What does this Live Texture Baking mean?

My guess is you get instant results when texture baking.

Generally in texture baking the render result is saved with the model (as a texture). For example texture baking is used when models are used with game engines. Baking can also include light fields, AO,...

well, of course, you are Lo Pan, an immortal god. You have time to do it :)

anyway, it would be nice if Studio could:

1 - import it from Sketchup automatically
2 - have a box to tick "face camera XY or face camera XYX" when selecting an object

This would be specially useful now that Thea 1.4 newest revision has the feature that needs less depth in order to render bitmaps with transparency in large quantities.
by suggestion of Pixero, got the PLANT FACTORY demo. It´s incredible how good many of it´s trees look like... with CAMERA FACE-ME BILLBOARDS.

When trying to export those trees (it exports only half the triangles in the demo) it says that the trees with billboard branches/leaves look good in VUE and some other programs, but suck in most render engines.

Really... they look amazing when rendered in static images, and even when rotating around them you need to pay attention to notice the rotating billboards always facing the camera.

BUT you don´t need to use them so close. These trees would be amazing to use on background. Because they have MANY LESS TRIANGLES they would be lighter on videoram, allowing the user to have more variety of species!

So again I request that Thea developers think about "always face camera" billboards on Thea Studio. Just a box to tick. Good for trees and specially for people (cut-out people used a lot in architecture, but you usually have to waste a lot of time adding them in photoshop, adding reflexes, shadows, etc)

You can perhaps also do that using SDK in order to "Billboard" things according to camera in a scene if you are able do to that. But that can also be done in your modeler easily if you use a good one.

it can be done inside Thea4Su. But when the scene is exported to Thea Studio, the "billboards" lose the property (they face the last camera position when the scene was exported only, but moving the camera inside Studio will see the billboards, people, etc, from other angles)

Just a thearender.com site suggestion - you should update the sites SSL certificate chains to no longer use SHA-1. Chrome is deprecating it, and many users (such as myself) are getting this ugly message like this in the url bar:
