I tried to implement the suggestions. Here is the current result.

For the modeling, I use Blender. The materials and rendering are done in TheaRender. For the lighting I use one of the hdr-maps from Thea.

Lovely lighting on that Microphone, what environment settings etc are you using?

I was bored today and had a quick play at the infamous "doughnut" I'm trying to find a way to put sprinkles on it in Sketchup which is doing my head in. Tried Comp Spray which worked but oriented the mall out from the centre of the doughnut. It put them on the icing surface fine though.

Also not happy with lighting. it's literally just a plane with the sun toned down to 0.5 I believe and temp cooled off a little.

Main goal was to experiment with bump, normal maps etc as materials knowledge lacking plus really trying to get environment lighting for objects better.

I think olflab is using hdri lighting, no sun by the looks of it, maybe the HDRI Studio at the bottom of this page:

Sprinkles, have you tried Skatter?
Start a new topic and see what folk can come up with in regards to bump etc :)
