Hello fellows:

I am new to Thea. Now I am working on a "wax-like" material creating and trying to get something like the following picture.

I have tried 100% basic+medium in various ways, bit still no luck. Could anyone give me some advice how set up these medium?

Thank you.

Use SSS material. It's what you need.

I found and captured this photo when I watched the youtube video" most used material properties". It was said that this wax effect could be done by basic+medium but no further details were mentioned.I am studying thea now. Replicating this effect would help me a lot to understand the "medium" options.

Still thank you for your reply.

there was an extensive thread about candles maybe do a search? I hate telling people to do that but the results are likely to be relevant anyway

here's one
viewtopic.php?f=22&t=3246

If you look in the forum's textures and mat section Patrick posted some SSS 3D print examples that could be a decent foundation

I tired searching and went over every page of the Materials & Textures in Licensed user club.

There are 620 threads coming out of the searching key words "wax" and there is no relevant thread in the first 15 pages. I guess that's why there is a Ask of Information for the newbies to call for help.

Again, the point of this thread is about how to use the "Medium". Using SSS to get the "Wax" effect is cool but not quite the target.

Still thank you for the link.

I did some fiddling again, tried to mimic that candle to get better feeling of the material. This time i added medium to have better control. Make sure the absorption value is about 2/1 compared to the scatter value. Ive also added that info in the descripion.

See attached material.

PS i can be that you need different absorption- and scatter-values. Ive set these to my scene and tried to get the same effect as your example image. I think the absortpion needs to be a higher number aswell as scatter.

Regarding searching for wax, I think it is hitting on the nickname of a longtime member, warnotte, which was wax. You can try searching "wax sss" instead. You can also search within search results.

Made another test using a mixed material with glossy. That version is the right one, the left is the same as above
