Patrick Nieborg has made this render and I think - if time permits - he will make a relevant detailed post soon (the "making of").

best wishes

While dispersion is an old topic in CG, we wanted to emphasize on the accuracy achieved by Thea Render - within this tech preview post. This is particularly so in unbiased mode, with accurate handling of measured data (nk/ior files), superior materials and full spectrum rendering.

Coupled with other technology advances, you can see rendered phenomena as realistic as never before, like volumetric dispersion.

I see this and think.....DAAANG!!! Now i really want the beta. I don't care how long a render would take on my computer. if i can get results like this i'll be in heaven.

How much time is generally going into Thea renders?
Minutes, hours, days?

Tom

In general you can expect the render times of minutes from biased engine and hours from unbiased. But this is so generic answer that can be easily untrue. It totally depends on the hardware, scene scene, resolution, materials and other factors. Dispersive materials are extra demanding for example.

Anyway, I think that you should check times for specific rendered images & machine specs. Now that we have our first series of heavy optimizations done, you will start to see this information as well.

best wishes

That is a weird question... The render time are generally what we allow them to be... And I guess by the time the code is being built, no optimization, we are more looking and working on the features which have to be implemented, the speed up should have to come after, during the optimization and cleaning of the code ? no ?

Regards.

Exactly! That's why we have postponed showing timings. But our current internal version is being optimized these days and we have seen some very nice (even huge) speed-ups. So, it is time that you will see machine specs/times along with the renders. ;)
