i thought thea is a greek word

It is, but it's also the root for some English words ("Thea", "theater", etc.)

OT:
it remind's me My Big Fat Greek Wedding and origin of words ;)

I'm in good mood since IR is out

We were informed of a post in another forum, presenting Thea IR in a rather unjustified way. Both that it is slow and it does not able to resolve certain effects (caustics). The test case is using the scene that comes with Thea, the glass+water illuminated by sun+sky.

Regarding IR being slow, we have a strong (opposite) feeling that Thea's IR is quite fast and it can perform efficiently even on old machines. Tests that we ran on relatively old dual core machines show to this direction.

Regarding resolving all kinds of lighting transfer, as you may know, Thea comes not only with one engine but with many. We kept this logic with IR as well, where default method is a biased one (not calculating caustics) but user can also switch to unbiased one. Using the glass+water scene, the full lighting transfer can be computed, by clicking on interactive render settings, selecting "Unbiased* (MC)" engine core, enabling Caustics and increasing Tracing Depth.

Here is the final result using IR unbiased engine:

Here is also a video showing Thea's IR with the glass+water scene:

The reason of this post, is just for reference for whoever comes across the related post on the other forum and nothing else.

best wishes

Amazing, Giannis. Seriously amazing.

Although, you shouldn't improve Thea so quickly. You'll run out of ideas. :P

3d stereo is not really first priority I admit but support for Colimo pass will be available soon!

best wishes

I hadn't heard of Colimo before. Looks like a really useful tool to use in conjunction with Thea.

That will be really useful especially if it is within Thea!

"soon" = weeks, months, ..... :?: :D

If I give here a more exact time like weeks, then it will surely require more than this. :D

I'm worried about that... maybe you are mismatching the two companies...

SolidIris is the one that makes Thea Render (Giannis, Patricks...) and Motiva (Alejandro and I) is the one that makes the 3ds plugin and Colimo. Is not in the roadmap to integrate Colimo into Thea, but thought the Thea channel users out of 3dmax, maya and softimage, that are the currently available host right now, will be able to use colimo too (Cinema, Sketchup...)

Regards, Víctor.
