I don't often share my WIP, so I thought I'd start posting images for a small personal project from the very early stage of putting a scene together.

This first image is just a very rough sketch of the scene I have in mind for a couple of models I created this week. I haven't really done anything with the materials or lighting and the background image is only a placeholder for elements that I will create in 3D.

The stool and table are based on the new Wing range designed by A-Cero for Vondom.

I love the materials and refletions, but why do the look like they don´t cast shadows? it seems to me as if they were floating over that beautiful wooden floor.

The HDRI I used doesn't produce very strong shadows - probably because the sun is behind the clouds. For the final render I'll pick a better HDRI and if necessary add a small amount of physical sun into the mix. I'll also try some reflectors if the lighting still isn't dynamic enough.

There's still a fair amount of work to be done before I will be happy with this. At the moment I'm modelling the missing background elements and when they are done I'll concentrate on textures and materials.

Yeah, an AO pass will be on my 'to do' list when I get to the final stages.

Other things to try will be displacement on the floor ( or modelling the joints if that doesn't give me the results I want) and modelling imperfections on the wall.

Thanks  It was more of a challenge than I expected (even tough I knew it wouldn't be easy with Sketchup), so I'm glad the hard work paid off.

Both ;) - plus regular old push/pull, rotate and scale. I might start a mirror topic over at Sketchucation and if I do, I'll share images of the proxies and post a link here.

Thanks Nige; good to know I've got a good starting point.

I've set up a Sketchucation thread where I'll mostly share further developments with the modelling. As promised I've posted images of the proxy models created for use with Artisan.

Tomorrow I'll hopefully post some displacement tests here on this forum.
