Following the "trend" in rendering, we have implemented a mechanism for relighting a scene without the need to re-render the scene. This mechanism - that we call Relight in Thea Render - is particularly effective for unbiased rendering. With the usage of multiple separate buffers (per light group), it is possible to tweak your lighting as a post process but keeping the result unbiased. Thus, you can get numerous renders of high quality within the rendertime of a single shot and even create relighting animation.

Thea Render Relight is supported by unbiased engine and comes with all the necessary user interface functionality to make this feature easily accessible on user level. There is an intuitive user interface where you can preview single light buffers, enable/disable them, tune the rgb color and edit the animation key frames.

Patrick Nieborg used the Relight feature to render a scene created by Tim Ellis, thus producing an unbiased animation. You can watch the video directly on youtube. Alternatively, you can download and watch the video from our site (you will need the Xvid codec).

best regards
Ioannis Pantazopoulos

Brilliant work giannis.

I presume you could do a similar effect on external renders
shading from day to night.
Would that be possible ?

I have been using ker for nearly 4 years now and thea looks like another great leap forwards
I especially like your plans for baking textures.
I look forward to it.

This is the equivalent multilight in maxwell?
this is very useful and practical for studies of light
PD: I'm starting to save

GREAT!!!
Giannis, this will be a great reason for someone to buy Thea!!!
Funny you picked a Maxwell user and a scene initially rendered with Maxwell...
Tim Ellis's work is always great...

Thanks. Patrick deserves all the credits creating the materials, rendering and animation.

That may be actually harder than one may think. A partial workaround is possible, that is to generate multiple suns, but there can be only a single sky/IBL source definition at the moment.

@JTB
We are mostly looking for scenes where photos are available, so that we can create as much realistic materials as possible. The particular scene was a contest winner, giving also a lot of ways adding extra lights.

best wishes
Ioannis Pantazopoulos

The only thing that makes it not photo real is the reflection on the door, but the video is just amazing!
