But if you suppose these "laser" beams being just thin white light beams like used by Newton then you see the proper light dispersion.

well ... the person who made this render, used a "white light" for the laser ... but he could also have used spectral data for a real laser light ... Thea is the only unbiased spectral render that comes with a build in spectral color picker ! ... so if you have the spectral data of the light you want to use, you can easy use the spectral color picker and get exact that light .... of cause the "gabs" you are talking about would appeared with the correct spectral light source data :)
(spectral data can also be used for materials ;)

This is a beautiful, spectacular pic! It reveals the way the render engine models dispersion with a few discrete colors. You probably already know this, but just for the audience, lasers do have tight beams like this, but always have a very narrow frequency (color) output. The net effect is that even a combination of several lasers tuned to many frequencies cannot create a rainbow. Instead there would be large dark gaps between narrow color lines on the screen. The white light in this rendering is closer to thermal radiation.
